Shoulder Replacement Surgery Recovery Time

Shoulder replacement surgery, or shoulder arthroplasty, is a safe surgical operation designed to cure chronically painful and dysfunctional shoulders due to many conditions including arthritis, injury of rotator cuffs among others, or even severe shoulder fractures. There are three types of shoulder replacement surgery in India, which vary depending on the patient’s need and level of joint damage. In Total shoulder replacement (TSA), both the parts of the joint including the humeral head (ball) and glenoid (socket) are fully replaced with artificial pieces. Such a procedure is excellent in patients who have an intact rotator cuff musculature and minimal bone loss. Reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA) is mainly indicated for patients with a massive rotator cuff tear. Hemiarthroplasty, or partial glenosphere filling, only replaces the ball part Joint in patients who have a good socket. The process of recovery may be a long one as it usually lasts between six months and one year but does improve the range of motion of the shoulder joints through physical therapy and activities of daily living.
